Here's a quick report from one of the Stonehaven & District Radio Car Club members, organizers and hosts of the 2005 Scottish Grand Prix, which was supported by Mirage Racing and all its associated brands:

Well what a weekend! All went off without a hitch.

Sunday the weather was better - modified was taken a bit more seriously but was still a fantastic day! Overall mod results were Stephen Crewell 1st (XRAY T1FK'05 with Team Orion cells and motor), Alan Bickerstaff 2nd and Dean Osbon 3rd.

We are working hard to get a complete race report and pictures to get online soon! In the meantime, click here for the complete race results for 19 Turn and Modified.

Here is the race report from Mark Gilliliand (19T winner):

SCOTTISH GP 2005 - Mark Gilliland's Report

With the unique format of the 19Turn Class on the Saturday and Open Modified on the Sunday, practice time is limited. The usual Scottish quick men where in attendance, joined by a few Englishmen and the Irish guys. Racing proved to be very enjoyable and competitive, despite the Scotch Mist!

Saturday - 19Turn
With the track being one of the largest in the UK, gearing is critical, especially with the 19Turn Motors.

Qualifying Rd1
On a dampish track I was able to put in a respectable time of 17/318, with the second fastest lap time of the round 17.67.

Qualifying Rd2
Still dialling in the car and learning the track, a ten second improvement was achieved in round 2.

Qualifying Rd3
With a dry track and new rubber, I was able to improve ( 17/301 ) and place the car 2nd on the grid for the finals, showing promise with fastest laptime of 17.17.

A-Final Leg 1
Alan Bickerstaff made a good start with me chasing him hard throughout the 5 minutes. On the last lap I could see him starting to slow with an overheated motor, unfortunately despite my best attempts (airbourne kerb jumping!) Alan got the win by 0.4 seconds.

With Alan making a slow start to this one I was able to pass him in the early stages. With Alan in 2nd I really put the hammer down looking for a faster time than his leg one win. Unfortunately I had a coming together with a backmarker at around 4 minutes and decided to settle into a pace and hope Alan could slip to 3rd or 4th. On the last lap Alan dropped to 5th handing XRAY the title of Scottish 19Turn Champion.

Sunday - Open Modified
Qualifying Rd1
A good solid run of 18/307 set TQ and provided a base for improvement.

Qualifying Rd2
A change of gearing and a minor mistake made for a slower time, but still holding FTD after 2 runs.

Qualifying Rd3
With the grip coming up, and the sun out a time of of 18/303 was achieved. This gave me FTD by 5 seconds and all looked good for the finals.

A-Final Leg 1
After a good start and settling down to business, I was able to open up a gap of 5 or 6 seconds over the chasing pack. With 16 Laps done and the win all but in the bag, my car stopped with a broken battery bar. After closer inspection the battery strap had not been tightened down properly and the cells were jiggling about! Mechanic sacked.

A-Final Leg 2
After placing 7th in leg 1, the overall win looked out of the question. A closer battle this time saw Alan Bickerstaff give me an honest run to follow across the line within 1.2 seconds.

Fortunately Stephen Cresswell (XRAY T1FK'05) got the win in leg 1 and a 4th in leg 2 gave Stephen and XRAY the glory.

XRAY - Triple Scottish Champion!
